Christmas Visit
Date Written December 2004 Length 4:26
This is my Christmas song from 2004. It is without doubt my favourite of all the songs on here, and I fully believe that it would be a Christmas number 1 if only someone with any talent performed it.
It is about a man who answers the door to a needy old man and whom he then helps to warm up for a while. Of course, this old man is Santa (although this is never explicitly mentioned), and Santa then decides to repay the kindness he received by making Christmas the best ever.
Lyrics
Verse 1
I settled down this year for Christmas Eve
A bitter wind is blowing
Whistles in the trees
I answer to a soft knock at the door
I see an old man standing
Who feels the cold at Christmas
Chorus 1
And I let him in to warm up for his journey
With a glass of wine to help him on his way
He said "I thank you son
for all the good you've done
And I'll spread the love you've given to me this Christmas"
Verse 2
I slept that night with soft and gentle ease
I gave the man no mention
Nor the words he spoke to me
I woke to find a white frost on the trees
And all the children smiling
Thanks for snow at Christmas
I see on TV news with such sweet words
It said that war was over
A truce for all the world
I hear another soft knock at the door
It's Anna Kournikova
Who's come for me this Christmas
Chorus 2 (repeated)
And I cast my mind back to the old man's visit
I heard again the words he spoke to me
He said "I thank you son
for all the good you've done
And I'll spread the love you've given to me this Christmas"
